Biography

Mark coaches our Kettlebell class on Sunday mornings, complete with bringing his own kettlebells and making the programming for it! He is a longtime supporter and member of Shockoe Bottom Performance, starting here back in 2012 before Ryan and Mandi bought the gym. He coached CrossFit classes here during that time (2013-2015), and while he trained from his garage for awhile, he’s now back as a member too (we’re so glad to have him again!). Mark holds current certifications in Primal Kettlebell, and as a Professional Life Coach (through Transformation Academy). His past certifications include CrossFit Level 1, CrossFit Stongman, NPA Certified Bodybuilding Judge, and as a Personal Trainer. While his background is in business, Mark once competed in bodybuilding and became a certified bodybuilding judge for the Natural Physique Association. He played Rugby for VCU club team 2003 – 2005, and got into Triathlon in 2009. There he completed an Ironman, qualified for USAT Championship, and qualifed and raced on team USA in the 2012 ITU Cross Triathlon Championships. He found CrossFit in 2012 and has competed in several competitions, notably qualifying for the Guardian Games Pro Division in 2018. He’s a “nacho connaisseur” and loves Olympic lifts as well as the good old burpee. He also met his wife at SBP back in the day! They started doing team competitions in 2013 and realized that they made a pretty good team in and out of the gym.
